A background in Fashion, specialising in menswear, has engendered a fascination with fabrics, particularly those that have already served a lifetime of use.
Recent work relates to the practical role that textiles play in our lives, and an instinctive desire to prolong their usefulness. Rejecting the throwaway values of today’s society, these pieces celebrate the ordinary, serviceable fabrics and objects that possess their own intrinsic values, and are often imbued with a personal sense of place or location. This new work is essentially hand made, hand-dyed and sometimes embroidered utilising a multi-head computerised machine.
