Consistent themes within my work are a questioning of conventional stereotypes, ranging from accepted norms of beauty and taste, to gender conditioning.
The work ranges in format from one-off gallery pieces, to fabric lengths. The function of the fabrics is deliberately ambiguous: they can be seen as ‘merely’ decorative, but have an underlying seriousness.
Recent work takes as its starting point concern over the globalisation of textile and clothing production.
Techniques used to create the work vary, but invariably include the use of industrial embroidery technology, whether relatively archaic, such as the pantograph schiffli machine, or up-to-date, such as the computerised multi-head embroidery machine.
