Susan Melvin Chief Study: Printed Textiles 

My work is an investigation into the unexpected meeting of antique and modern worlds. I am inspired by underlying impressions and suggestions of past cultures and ages which co-exist with contemporary and modern design. Pattern and decoration is both concealed and revealed by the passing of time, instilling a sense of intrigue and inviting speculation on the original form. The patina of aged and eroded objects creates beautiful changes in surface texture and colour, providing a wealth of design and drawing inspiration.
